‘The Healthy Weight Philosophy,’ Oct. 2

Free lecture, open to the public, by Canyon Ranch Health Resort Research Director for Exercise Science Dr. Michael Hewitt, presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center.

The Healthy Weight Philosophy,” a free 90-minute presentation, including time for questions and answers, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 6 p.m., at The University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus, DuVal Auditorium (Room 2600), 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson. The event is open to the public and light refreshments will be provided.

Michael Hewitt, PhDCanyon Ranch Research Director for Exercise Science Michael Hewitt, PhD, will discuss a practical and reasonable approach to determine healthy weight ranges and the tools to achieve and maintain optimal weight. Dr. Hewitt will explain the importance of lean body mass; reveal the facts, fads and fictions surrounding the weight loss industry; and detail the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and the subsequent health benefits with regard to joint disease, cardiorespiratory disease, diabetes, sleep apnea and more.

Dr. Hewitt is a clinical specialist in exercise and aging, cardiometabolic physiology and exercise for bone health. During his more than twenty-year tenure at Canyon Ranch, he has written more than 15,000 individual exercise prescriptions and has lectured at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He is dedicated to preventative medicine and especially is interested in the prevention of sarcopenia, the age-related loss of body mass.

The lecture is part of the “Living Healthy with Arthritis” series of monthly talks presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center.

About the ‘Living Healthy with Arthritis’ lecture series

The “Living Healthy with Arthritis” monthly talks are presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson and supported through the Susan and Saul Tobin Endowment for Research and Education in Rheumatology.

The 90-minute lectures, with time for questions and answers, are held the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at The University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.
