Building upon a long tradition of mutual support, the University of Arizona Arthritis Center (UAAC) will once again team up with the UA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as it introduces the 2020 University of Arizona Arthritis Center 'Bear Down for Health: Sport and Science in the Era of COVID-19' to benefit the UArizona Arthritis Center and its research efforts. This meaningful collaboration began upon Hall of Fame basketball coach Lute Olson's arrival at the UArizona in 1983. The partnership has helped raise nearly $2 million for arthritis research and education over the past 37 years. This event is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Robert G. Volz, the University of Arizona Arthritis Center Friends, Finley Distributing and Dr. Harold Tretbar.

This unique livestream panel discussion will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and features distinguished leaders from UArizona Athletics and UArizona Health Sciences. The featured panelists are Vice President for Athletics Dave Heeke, Health Sciences Vice President Dan Derksen, MD, and Immunobiology Department Head and Co-director of the Arizona Center on Aging Janko Nikolich-Zugich, MD, PhD. In this unique and timely presentation, the featured experts will discuss the future of college athletics at the University of Arizona and on a national level, while highlighting the scientific and public health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the advances being made at the University of Arizona. This one-of-a-kind panel discussion will be followed by a virtual reception. The reception is an exclusive opportunity to join the expert panelists and engage in the interactive limited-audience question and answer forum. This portion of the program is reserved for sponsors, and those who purchase tables or individual tickets. Admission to the panel discussion only is free.
