Each year, the University of Arizona Arthritis Center (UAAC) is honored to partner with Wildcat Athletics to present the Bear Down Luncheon. The Center's signature event features an inside look into Wildcat athletics with the best seat in the house in the intimate setting of Flemings' Prime Steakhouse and Winebar in Tucson. A sold-out event, the 2018 Bear Down Luncheon was held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 and we sincerely thank all who supported the UAAC at this treasured event.

This unique collaboration began upon Hall of Fame basketball coach Lute Olson's arrival as the UA's head men's basketball coach in 1983. The collaboration has helped raise nearly $2 million for arthritis research and education over the past 35 years. An event not to miss, each year brings a unique flair while highlighting athletics programming making headlines. This year's keynote speaker was the UA's 13th Director of Athletics, Dave Heeke. Dave was named Arizona's Director of Athletics in February, 2017. He is a veteran in college athletics and the Pac-12 Conference, serving 18 years in the Oregon athletics department and 11 years as the Athletics Director at Central Michigan University (CMU). During his tenure at CMU, Heeke instilled his vision of a “Championship Culture” within the athletics department regarding athletic success, academic excellence, and record fundraising. He was twice honored with the Cartwright Award, which recognizes the Mid-American Conference’s top overall institution based on excellence in academics, athletics and citizenship. The CMU football program qualified for bowl games in eight of his 11 years at the helm, while the men’s basketball team won four MAC division championships and one overall title.
