Randy J. Horwitz
Medical Director, the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine
Associate Professor of Medicine, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson

About the Lecture

According to the National Center for Health Statistics76.2 million people in the United States suffer from chronic pain. Chronic inflammation—which refers to when the body's natural healing process continues long after it is needed—can destroy healthy tissue, leading to pain and the development of major forms of arthritis. The CDC reports that arthritis affects 54.4 million US adults—more than 1 of 4—and is a major cause of chronic pain.

As chronic inflammation and pain are severe problems for many, the research and insight into alternative treatments that will be shared by Dr. Horwitz will bring to light groundbreaking advances and available treatment options.

Integrative Medicine (IM) is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapies.
