Internationally recognized expert in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other joint diseases C. Kent Kwoh, MD, who recently was appointed director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center, will discuss the risk factors for the development and progression of knee osteoarthritis with a focus on risk factors that patients can impact. He also will address the differences among primary prevention, secondary prevention and tertiary prevention, as well as the importance of weight reduction and avoidance of joint injury to prevent arthritis.

 

Dr. Kwoh also is professor of medicine and medical imaging, The Charles A.L. and Suzanne M. Stephens Chair of Rheumatology and chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, UA College of Medicine – Tucson. His research interests include outcome assessment and the examination of risk factors for the development and progression of a broad spectrum of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, with a particular focus on knee osteoarthritis. He has authored more than 150 research articles and directs one of the NIH-funded Clinical Centers for the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI).
