L. Daniel Latt, MD, PhD

Dr. L. Daniel Latt serves as co-interim director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center and is an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a highly regarded clinician-scientist who is committed to advancing foot and ankle care through research, using state of the art evidence-based treatments, and empowering patients by providing them the tools they need to understand their problems and participate in treatment decision making.
His research interests include the use of ultrasound in the prognosis of tendon and ligament injuries of the foot and ankle; evaluating the impact of bone viscoelasticity on the maintenance of arthrodesis site compression following fusion surgery; the determination of changes in joint contact pressures that occur with fractures and degenerative flatfoot and the use of finite element analysis for computational modeling of foot and ankle disorders and their treatments.
Dr. Latt received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, San Diego before completing a PhD in bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He went on to complete his medical doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh followed by residency at McGill University, after which he pursued subspecialties in sports medicine and foot and ankle surgery through fellowships at Kaiser Permanente San Diego and Duke University Medical Center, respectively.
