Oct 24, 2014
Free lecture, open to the public, by Kelly Grant, RD, NC, of Kelly Grant Nutrition, and formerly with Canyon Ranch and Miraval Health Resorts.

“Our strength, vigor, health—and even the span of life itself—depend upon what we eat,” proclaims an advertisement in The Atlantic Monthly magazine—in February 1922.

What we know now about how foods influence health will be explored in a free presentation, “The Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle: Foods that Heal Inflammation,” by nutritionist and registered dietician Kelly Grant, RD, NC, of Kelly Grant Nutrition and formerly with Canyon Ranch and Miraval Health Resorts, on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 6-7:15 p.m., at the University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus, DuVal Auditorium (Room 2600), 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson. (If seating in DuVal Auditorium reaches capacity, the talk also will be videostreamed live to UAMC Room 5403).

What we eat affects everything we do. Our diet directly influences levels of inflammation, ease of digestion, hormone balance and regulation of blood sugar and cholesterol. Sleep quality, bone density, muscle tone, skin elasticity and tone, brain function, genetic expression and disease also are directly affected by what we consume.

Kelly Grant will delve into the causes of inflammation and provide strategies that you can perform every day to reverse chronic inflammation, boost immunity and improve the overall quality of your health. Grant will discuss the hidden sources of inflammation in our environment and specific foods that cause chronic inflammation and unwanted weight gain. She also will present practical and manageable tips and information about must-have foods to keep your immune system strong and inflammation levels low.

Open to the public, the free 75-minute presentation includes time for questions and answers. Light refreshments will be provided. Parking is available in the UAMC – University Campus visitor/patient parking garages just south of the hospital’s main entrance and north of the UAMC-Diamond Children’s lobby. Please note: the UA Arthritis Center now is able to validate parking; please bring your parking ticket to the lecture to be validated.
