UAAC’s Dr. Ernest Vina Papers Appear in JAMA Open Network, Lupus Journals

Oct 30, 2018

UA rheumatologist Ernest Vina, MD, MS, co-authored papers published in JAMA Network Open on “Positive psychological intervention on pain and functional difficulty among adults with osteoarthritis” and Lupus on “Healthcare resource utilization and costs associated with long-term corticosteroid exposure.”

The first, which also includes UA Division of Rheumatology Chief and UA Arthritis Center Director C. Kent Kwoh, MD, as a co-author, appeared in the Sept. 21 issue under “Original Investigations: Complementary and Alternative Medicine.”

The second, published Oct. 27, concludes long-term high-dose oral corticosteroid use is associated with significantly greater future health care resource use and costs. “Judicious reduction in daily steroid dose may decrease the imminent economic burden associated with high-dose steroid use in systemic lupus erythematosus,” state the authors.
