Chiyoung Lee, PhD, RN

Dr. Chiyoung Lee is an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona College of Nursing and an early-career researcher with expertise in data analytics, epidemiology, geriatrics, and pain management. Her primary research focuses on racial and ethnic differences in chronic pain experiences among older adults with knee osteoarthritis, emphasizing the development of nonpharmacological pain management strategies for underserved communities. Her ongoing funded study examines the mechanisms underlying ethnic group differences in clinical pain severity by investigating biopsychosocial factors and pain-related brain function among Hispanics and non-Hispanic Whites with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.

Additionally, Dr. Lee’s research includes noninvasive neuromodulation approaches, including both clinic-based and home-based transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for older adults with knee osteoarthritis. Her work mainly focuses on developing multimodal interventions that integrate tDCS with other clinical strategies, such as psychological and behavioral therapies, to optimize pain reduction outcomes for this important population.
