Nora G. Singer, MD
Dr. Nora G. Singer is director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center, chief of the Division of Rheumatology and professor of medicine in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. With these appointments, Dr. Singer will receive the Charles A. L. and Suzanne M. Stephens Endowed Chair in Rheumatology.
A nationally-recognized rheumatologist, physician-scientist, and educator, her career has focused on advancing clinical research, improving patient care, and mentoring the next generation of rheumatology investigators.
Dr. Singer earned her bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Union College and her medical doctorate from Albany Medical College, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics, followed by fellowships in adult and pediatric rheumatology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, she served for more than 25 years on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and held numerous leadership positions at MetroHealth Medical Center, including Director of the Division of Rheumatology, Medical Director of the Clinical Research Unit, and most recently, Clinical Science Director of the MetroHealth Research Institute.
Dr. Singer's research spans both adult and pediatric rheumatic diseases, with particular interests in rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren's disease, immune-mediated inflammatory disorders, translational immunology, and clinical trials. Throughout her career, she has led and collaborated on numerous National Institutes of Health and foundation-funded studies investigating autoimmune disease mechanisms, novel therapeutics, biomarkers, and regenerative medicine. She has authored or co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has served as an associate editor, editorial board member, and reviewer for many of the field's leading rheumatology journals.
A dedicated leader in academic medicine, Dr. Singer has held numerous national leadership roles within the American College of Rheumatology, the Arthritis Foundation, and the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA). She has served on NIH study sections, chaired national grant review committees, and has been recognized for excellence in teaching, mentorship, and clinical research. Her commitment to advancing rheumatology extends from pioneering research to training future physicians and scientists while improving the lives of patients with arthritis and autoimmune diseases.
Her clinical interests include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjögren's disease, osteoarthritis, vasculitis, pediatric rheumatic diseases, and other systemic autoimmune disorders. Dr. Singer is board certified in internal medicine, adult rheumatology, and pediatric rheumatology.
