Tracy Shake
Tracy Shake directs the University of Arizona Arthritis Center's (UAAC) community outreach and education programs throughout the state of Arizona. She also serves as host of the UAAC's 'Joint Space' podcast, a source that explores a wide range of scientific topics with experts who share insights on leading-edge research, clinical care, treatments, and medical innovations to help patients with arthritis discover new pathways to health and wellness. Ms. Shake joined the University of Arizona Arthritis Center in 2011 after serving on its Advisory Board and as public relations chair of the Friends of the UAAC.
A 1986 University of Arizona graduate, Ms. Shake spent 14 years in the UA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics where she served as Assistant Media Relations Director, and later was named Director of the Center for Athlete's Total Success (CATS) program - a comprehensive community outreach, health, wellness and life skills program for student-athletes. Under her direction, the CATS Program won the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Program of Excellence Award and was utilized as a national model throughout all divisions of the NCAA. In addition to working on national media campaigns in college athletics, Ms. Shake has won numerous awards for her publications, including the College Sports Information Director's Best in the Nation Award.
A sustaining member of the Junior League of Tucson, Ms. Shake has served on multiple campus and community boards and was named as Advisor of the Year by the UA Panhellenic Association. Among others, she previously served on the executive board of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (now Komen for the Cure), and currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Theraplay Institute, a Chicago-based international organization focused on excellence in dyadic child and family therapy and recognized by the Association of Play Therapy as one of seven seminal psychotherapies for children.
With a strong interest in health, wellness and fitness, Ms. Shake was a member of the Canyon Ranch Wellness Resort fitness staff for 15 years. She also currently teaches many of the UAAC's Living Healthy With Arthritis fitness and movement classes, designed specifically for those living with arthritis.
