Title: Rheumatologic Concerns of Breast Cancer
Julia Buchfuhrer, DO is a first year Rheumatology Fellow in University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson. She earned her bachelor's degree in Marine Biology with a minor in psychology at University of California, Davis in 2010. She played rugby for UC Davis during that time, a division I rugby team that placed sixth in the nation her senior year. She took two years off after college to explore the field of marine biology and moved to Catalina Island off the coast of California to become an outdoor marine science instructor. Soon after, she applied to medical school and completed her doctorate in osteopathic medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in 2016. During her time at Western University, she focused on disparities in health care and organized a mobile HIV testing unit.
She went on to complete her internal medicine residency at University of California, Irvine in 2019. During that time she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society as chosen by the medical students at UC Irvine. She was a founding member of the UC Irvine internal medicine Wellness Committee and also participated as a member of the UCI GME Wellness Committee. She was accepted to and participated in the American College of Physicians (ACP) Southern California regional poster competition her last two years in residency, presenting on topics from Wellness to Rheumatology.
