Title: "Difficult Case Presentation: Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis or Early Behcet Syndrome"
Rafael Grau, MD is a retired Professor of Medicine in the University of Arizona College of Medicine and former Director of the fellowship program in the Division of Rheumatology. He also directed the UA Division of Rheumatology's Scleroderma clinic. A native of Lima, Peru, he earned his undergraduate education in pre-medical professions the Universidad Peruana "Cayetano Heredia" in 1968 and his Medical Doctorate from the same institution in 1974. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977, and a fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1980.
Prior to coming to the UA in 2010, Dr. Grau served as director of the Division of Rheumatology and as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine where he served since 1999. He was an attending physician in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, from 1994-99. In addition, he was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center from 1985-1994, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois from 1983-84. Dr. Grau's primary research interest is the treatment of scleroderma.
